First Year Programs


First Year Programs (FYP) promote affordable entry to college and completion of career and university-transfer goals. Programs include: 



Free tuition, voucher support (food, books, or transportation) and additional academic support for qualifying students. To qualify for promise, students must: 

  1. Be a high school graduate or have a GED or equivalent
  2. Be considered a first-time college student*
  3. Complete either the FAFSA or CA Dream Act 
  4. Complete a short summer transition activity
  5. Attend West full-time (12 or more units) in the Fall and Spring and maintain a 2.0 GPA or better

*YES! If you took college courses while still in high school, you still qualify for the Promise program.



First Year Pathways is an academic program for students interested in Business, Computer Science, Health Sciences, general university transfer.  


Participating students are guaranteed full-time enrollment for Fall and Spring in specific FYP classes. Students participating in FYP benefit from the additional resources below:

  • Early summer preparation activities
  • Access to Student Success Coaches Counseling
  • Comprehensive Onboarding Support to maximize access to student resources
