Heldman Learning Resource Center Tutor Job Description


Job Summary 

Provide instruction and academic support to students who are enrolled in a variety of WLAC courses and have come into the Learning Resource Center for tutorial assistance.  This is accomplished through drop in tutoring and peer-to-peer led study groups.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

1.  Provide tutorial assistance to students by:  

  • Conducting informal intake and diagnosis
  • Assisting student with defining academic success and monitor progress 
  • Meeting with students individually and in small groups and study skills development
  • Maintaining contacts with instructors in applicable departments as necessary


2.  Participate in tutorial services trainings and meetings by:

  • Attending monthly in-services
  • Actively participate in presentations and discussions


3.  Complete other task as assignment by the Learning Center Director


Desirable Qualifications: 

Selected candidates must have the following:  

  • A firm understanding of the subject course you wish to tutor.
  • Earned a grade of A in the class that you will be tutoring and an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Possess strong organizational, interpersonal communication skills and time management skills.
  • Be able to serve as a role model for students seeking assistance.
  • Obtain a letter of recommendation from a faculty member in the discipline that you will tutor.
  • A passion to provide learning assistance to WLAC students
