January, 2009 -- Football Alumni at Sugar Bowl. 2 More Receive University Football Scholarships.

David Reed pulled in a pivotal touchdown pass that helped the win the '09 Sugar Bowl. Terrell Crawford and Aaron Grimes received university football scholarships.

December 16, 2008 -- New 1000-Space "Green" Parking Lot

Students will enjoy easier parking while the new lot will actually make the campus "greener" with its 300 kilowatt photovoltaic farm.


December 16, 2008 -- Save $200 w/ New 6-Month Metro Pass

West students can now purchase a 6-month Metro Transit Pass for only $15 when they register for 12 or more units for the coming Spring semester.

August 13, 2008 -- New Online Labor Course Particularly Relevant in Today's Environment 
WLAC, with the support of the Dolores Huerta Labor Institute has added a new course exploring the social and political history of working poeple in California.


August 12, 2008 -- Notable Screenwriters/Producers Join Faculty - Film Festival Aug 12 - 15
Screenwriters and producers Evan Charnov, Chad Freehan, Eric Nelson and Peter Sullivan have joined the WLAC faculty. Their credits include "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Lords of Dogtown," network and cable series and film festival acclaim.


July 22, 2008 -- 8th Annual Youth Orchestra Concert: Sat, Aug 9 @ 2:00pm
Directed by Mitch Newman of the LA Philharmonic, talented musician from ages 12 to 18 will perform the classics and more.


June 30, 2008 -- West Welcomes New Womens' Volleyball & Soccer Teams and Two New Coaches.
Fran Gatell, new Soccer Coach, comes to West from Santa Monica High School where his team went 29-0-1 on their way to the Southern State Regional Championship - CIF Division I in 2008. Branden Higa, new Volleyball Coach, comes from being an assistant coach to the the very successful team at Loyola Marymount University.


June 3, 2008 -- West honors Congresswoman Diane E. Watson for her key role in securing grants to provide entertainment industry job training.
Speakers and guests included Michael F. Miller, Ninth International Vice President of IATSE; Fox Entertainment Executives Gerald Alcantar and Gretchen Lewotsky; Sony Pictures Entertainment Executive Gerald Alcantar; Gary Gray, Director/Producer; and Rodney Allen Rippy, former child star and Ntl. Marketing Director for Westwood One Radio Network.


May 27, 2008 -- West took second at the 2008 California State Track and Field Championships in Cerritos ending a record breaking season. Ebony Collins led the way as she won the 100 meters, in 11.53. Her time was the second best community college time in the nation this year...


May 19, 2008 -- West will honor Congresswoman Diane E. Watson at a reception on May 29 for her leadership role in securing two grants totaling $2.5 million for the college. The grants will fund the expansion of WLAC’s entertainment industry job training programs. Rep. Watson is Chair of the Congressional Entertainment Industry Caucus...


May 2, 2008 - Track Teams Take 1st & 3rd Place at Western States Conf Championship. The West Los Angeles College women’s track and field team won the 2008 Western States Conference Championships... Ebony Collins set a conference meet record in the 100m hurdles. West men finished third out of 13 teams with 119 points. The combined track and field title went to West LA College as well, a big turn around from last place a year ago...
