Jose Rivera

I feel morally motivated to be the student body representative because I want to take actions to unify us during times of hardships and adversity through my own life experiences with these tough matters. I am considered an honest person and coming from a diverse family and culture, I am able to grasp and relate to others’ backgrounds as well. I have a strong willingness to learn and grow in order to overcome whatever challenges may lie ahead as we, a whole, are in this together.

I want to foster opportunities for the student body to express their unique individualities and reassure them that their efforts, accomplishments, and voices matter. I want to also hone within myself and others how self-perseverance and initiative can take us further than we have ever envisioned. Being part of the ASO team and working together to make a difference in what our student body needs as a whole, is what I aspire for. I hope to build on my leadership skills to propel ideas forward and give the student body and ASO the opportunities to do so as well.
My purpose for seeking the WLAC ASO President’s office is that I enjoy helping my community in a proactive way. I would like the opportunity to enhance the advancement of West LA and improve student welfare. I have worked in student government at UC Merced and in student government in High School. I also have Leadership experience from being a captain at Dorsey Police Academy. I can enhance and contribute to West LA by applying a digital bridge that connects West LA to students and focus on expanding clubs.

ASO Mission Statement

The Associated Student Organization (ASO) of West Los Angeles College is a purpose driven, student run organization. We are elected and appointed by the student body for the student body. We serve to benefit the student body through our support of academic achievement, public activism, and social service. We strive to build a campus that is focused on the needs and welfare of the students. We stand alongside our fellow students and campus community in order to stimulate the academic, physical, social and moral lives of students in the college.  We provide students the opportunity for leadership and civic participation on campus. We also provide an opportunity for leadership on the regional, state, and national levels to support and advocate for resources that increase academic achievement, student success, and campus community engagement. Bachelor degree students who pay the ASO fee can form clubs and act as officers as would any other ASO member.

We hope that you find our online presence to be an informative and a useful resource. Please visit our Webpage/YouTube/Facebook/Twitter/Instagram to keep up to date on ASO Programs, Services, and ASO Sponsored Events.
