The college is closed today in honor of Genocide Remembrance Day and Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day which is a public holiday in Armenia and is observed by the Armenian diaspora on April 24. It is held annually to commemorate the victims of the Armenian genocide of 1915.

On April 24, 2023, CA Governor Newsom declared Genocide Remembrance Day a state-wide holiday. A statement from the Governor’s office said the new Genocide Remembrance Day will be “a day for all to reflect on past and present genocides, but especially those that have felt the impact of these atrocities and groups that have found refuge in California, including, but not limited to, the Holocaust, Holodomor, and the Genocides of the Armenian, Assyrian, Greek, Cambodian, and Rwandan communities.”
