Rooted Resistance: Storytelling, Climate Justice, and the Chicanx Experience
Language Arts and the CA Center for Climate Change Education at West are hosting guest speaker Helena María Viramontes, Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences in English at Cornell University.
Topic: "Rooted Resistance: Storytelling, Climate Justice, and the Chicanx Experience." Falling between Cesar Chavez Day and Earth Day, her talk will underscore the connections her fiction and scholarship draw between social justice and environmental issues.
About Our Speaker: Dr. Viramontes is a Distinguished Professor of Arts and Sciences in English at Cornell University and the recipient of numerous awards, including the John Dos Passos Award for Literature and a United States Artist Fellowship. Her publications include The Moths and Other Stories and the novels Under the Feet of Jesus and Their Dogs Came with Them. Her writings have been widely anthologized and frequently adopted for classroom and university study.
