LGBTQ Resources

West LA College welcomes all members of our Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual community. WLAC is continuously working to create a campus environment that celebrates and affirms all orientations, gender identities, and expressions, and the intersectionality of our community through our programming and student services.

2024 Events

April 9: 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. | Queerness & Climate

April 24 - 25: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. | 6th Annual CCC LGBTQ+ Summit
The summit is a space for students, faculty, classified professionals and administrators where we will focus on this year’s theme: “The Unstoppable Movement for Queer & Trans Liberation” and on improving not only individual community college campuses but encouraging changes at the structural level as well...Summit Registration

May 3: 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. | Preventing Suicide Among LGBTQ+ Young People - OnlineThe Trevor Project offers several resources covering suicide among LGBTQ+ young people and the supportive role you can take towards suicide prevention. Preferred Name Process

WLAC recognizes that transgender and gender non-conforming students may decide to identify themselves with a preferred name that differs from their legal first name given at birth. Students can watch this video to learn how to change their first name in the SIS system.

On Campus Resources

  • Wildcats’ Den – Offering a free pantry and wardrobe for all students.
  • Timely Care – TimelyCare is a virtual health and well-being platform available 24/7 that is free for WLAC students.
  • Health Center - Medical and mental health services are provided by Via Care under contract with West Los Angeles College. Via Care professionals are both LGBTQ & Undocumented Student-friendly and Spanish-speaking. For a medical or mental health appointments, please call (323) 268-9191. Be sure to say you are a WLAC student.
  • All-gender restrooms – All gender restrooms can be found in:  SSB - 1st, 2nd & 3rd Floors; GC - 1st, 2nd, 3rd Floors; MSB - 1st & 2nd Floors
  • Providing a Respectful Environment – Importantly, if you feel you have been harassed or treated unfairly due to your gender identity or sexual orientation, you can report your concern using this form

  • Trans Lifeline – Trans Lifeline is the nation’s only crisis and peer-supported hotline staffed by trans people, for trans people
  • Trevor Project  - trained counselors who understand the challenges faced by LGBTQ youth 
  • NQTTCN - Mental Health Funds for financial assistance to Queer and Trans Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to access mental health

  • LGBTQ+ Summit 2024 will be held virtually April 24 - 25, 2024. The Summit is a space for students, faculty, classified professionals, and administrators to focus on this year’s theme: “Rise, Resist, Empower: The Unstoppable Movement for Queer & Trans Liberation.”
